Can COPD cause breathlessness out of the blue ?

My wife has emphysema and a quadruple heart bypass ( 3 years ago ).
She is experiencing breathless occasionally but not every day.
I understand that COPD is a chronic condition but shouldn't she become breathless.
To rephrase.
Can you get breathless with exertion on one day but not the next ( with same exertion ) ?

  1. Hi TDAKS, Yes in my case anyway you can suddenly get breathless out of the blue. I think many would agree with this. One day can be okay then the next day difficult.X

    1. TDAKS,
I agree 100% with what CopdGirl says. One is fine and the next is miserable. Such is living with COPD. I can exercise one day and feel great and the next day when I exercise I can barely get thru it. Some days when I shower it feels good and my breathing is clear. The next day's shower can find me struggling to breathe and get thru the process of showering. So the answer to your question is a simple YES. Take care and God Bless!

      1. , in addition to what our other community members commented I did want to include an article for you on breathlessness that might be helpful: https://copd.net/symptoms/shortness-of-breath. would also encourage you and your wife to reach out to her physician if these episodes get worse or are concerning you! Alll the best, Sam S. (COPD.net team)

        1. Thank you so much Copdgirl and Dminor9. While not at peace with the eventual outcome at least we can lay the blame with COPD. Wishing you both well.

          1. Hi TDAKS, wishing you well also, Take Care and God Bless.X
