Striverdi Respimat (olodaterol)

Striverdi Respimat is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA). Striverdi Respimat is a long-term, maintenance treatment for COPD and should not be used as a rescue medicine for treating sudden breathing problems.

How does Striverdi Respimat work?

LABA medicines, such as Striverdi Respimat, helps the muscles around the airways in the lungs stay relaxed to prevent symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.

What are the possible side effects of Striverdi Respimat?

For patients in clinical trials that were treated with Striverdi Respimat, common side effects included:

  • Cold symptoms
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Bronchitis
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea
  • Back pain
  • Joint pain

Other side effects caused by treatment with Striverdi Respimat include: sudden shortness of breath, palpitations, chest pain, high blood pressure, low blood potassium, high blood glucose, serious allergic reactions such as hives, rash, swelling of face, mouth, tongue and breathing problems. These are not all the possible side effects of Striverdi Respimat. Patients should talk to their doctor about what to expect with treatment with Striverdi Respimat.

Things to know about Striverdi Respimat

Striverdi Respimat should not be used to treat asthma. Before starting Striverdi Respimat, patients should tell their healthcare professionals about all medical conditions, particularly if they:

  • Have heart problems
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have seizures
  • Have thyroid problems
  • Have diabetes

While on Striverdi Respimat, other medicines containing LABA should not be used. Before starting treatment with Striverdi Respimat, patients should talk to their doctor about all medications (prescription and over-the-counter), herbal supplements, and vitamins they are taking. Certain medications may interact with Striverdi Respimat and may cause serious side effects. Patients should tell their doctor if they are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast feeding since it is not known if Striverdi Respimat can harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk.

People with asthma who take LABA medicines such as olodaterol, the active ingredient in Striverdi Respimat, have an increased risk of death from asthma problems. Do not take Striverdi Respimat for asthma.

Dosing information

Striverdi Respimat should be taken every day as 2 inhalations, once daily, at the same time of the day. Do not take more than one dose in 24 hours. Each inhalation contains 2.5mcg of olodaterol.
