Wanting to feel useful with COPD

I was diagnosed 12 yrs ago. I smoked for 30 yrs. I am on oxygen 24/7. I have 28% lung function. I get sick alot and my gp doesnt seem to understand how even a cold makes me feel so bad. I am glad that I have my kids and grandchildren, job and pets. I just wish I felt useful or needed.

    Hi Munchkin062,

Thank you for sharing your story. We are happy you are a part of our community at Even though it sounds like you experience difficulties at times, you are surrounded by people, animals, and a job you love, which is so wonderful. Just those small things in life can really keep us going and keep our spirits high when maybe we are struggling. Often when we have people in our lives that we love and value, they love and value us right back. I am sure that’s exactly how your family feels about you. They need you just as much as you need them. It’s a two way street. Pet’s especially 🙂 Still, it does sound like things can get tough at times, so I thought you would find these articles helpful. They discuss ways to cope with the emotional impact of COPD –, They both highlight the importance of loving caring relationships, which you have! But then also discuss other self care techniques, which maybe you will find helpful. Again, thank you for sharing your story with us. We love hearing from you.
