Taking Prednisone

About 10 years ago, I was going to visit my family in Boulder, CO. I was nervous about the altitude there and asked my doctor how to handle it. He prescribed 60 mg Prednisone for 5 days, weaning down to 40 for 5 days, etc.

I felt really weird

When I took the prednisone for the first time, I felt really weird. I did not feel like myself, couldn't sleep, tossed and turned all night. In the morning, I consulted my sister in law who is a nurse who had me lower the dose the next day. That worked for me and since then, I can't remember being told to take 60 mg/day.

It works for me

I will say, when I get an exacerbation of my emphysema, Prednisone knocks out the cold or inflammation and now I keep a 5 day supply on hand, just in case. It is a miracle drug if you take it for a short period of time. Once, when I had to take it for several weeks, I got those mousy like face people talk about.

So don't be afraid to take it. It is an amazing drug if taken for short periods of time and has you feeling healthy fast!
