The Wife of a COPD Patient

My husband was diagnosed about three years ago with COPD. He immediately quit smoking. Everything was going great until October of 2019.

Hospitalizations and battling pneumonia

He had a terrible coughing, sneezing spell. It wreaked havoc with his system. He was in terrible pain, fluid started building up, and tightness in chest. Then in March, he came down with pneumonia. In hospital for a week. He was home for a month and right back in. This time he came home pretty much bed ridden.

Preparing for hospice

Then 4 weeks ago my husband entered the hospital with double pneumonia. Everything seemed to be getting better. He took a turn for the worse and on Friday they informed us he will be coming home with hospice. He just does not have any other options. You see he also has congestive heart failure. I will be losing my best friend of 29 years. I do not know how I will survive because he has been my rock. I love him so much.

I pray for the husbands and wives of COPD patients. You need strength and courage. Hang in there. If I can handle all of this, you can too. God be with us.
