Recently Diagnosed with COPD

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with COPD and I am feeling a bit alone and would love to hear from others that are feeling this way or have in the past.

I am 42 working 15 hours a week but I have had to take time off due to a viral infection that triggered the COPD..

Thank you for your help 🙂

    Hi MLB76AU
I so remember when I was diagnosed and feeling alone for some time. I didn’t feel that anyone understood, some had never heard of COPD and most just blew it off.
Before long there was a place to call home and a group to call family.
We have wonderful people in our community here who likely understand, as they are going through similar things. You can do online searches for other groups as well. There are also articles and stories that you might relate to on our main page and others at copd.net. You may find similarities to what you feel and experience. Know that we are here for you too.

Living with a scary disease is a very lonely place to be. This is a support group so feel free to post as long as you need to. There is nothing worse than having no one to talk to about how you are feeling. I have COPD and I am not receiving treatment. Left alone till I am so ill I have to go in to hospital. Our Health Service here in the U.K. don’t have the funds to give us good healthcare. I was taken to hospital and doubled up with pneumonia and couldn’t breathe and then diagnosed with COPD. I was then discharged from hospital as they needed the bed for someone else. One time discharged at 3a.m. then go in the morning to collect some meds. So Yes this is a very lonely place to be. It is the support groups that are going to lift us up and carry us through so don’t struggle on your own. I wish you a speedy recovery from your viral infection and hope that you begin to feel better as you find you have friends here on this site to support you.

I’m sure you’ll hear from others in the community. What you’re feeling is not rare or unusual. Many people have expressed feeling alone and misunderstood.

    Hi, MLB76SO
I was diagnosed about a year and a half ago, although I had symptoms for years. Anyway, I also felt very alone after coming out of a funk and being angry about my diagnosis and then blaming myself for being a smoker. (I have been smoke free for just over two years now.).
I am glad that I found copd.net. There are many kind and helpful people here. I am also looking into pulmonary rehab in my area, which would bring me into real time contact with other COPD ers.
If you need to converse or sound off, feel free to send me a message.
    Good luck and feel better.
