You need to go and see your doctor and then if you are not feeling better get a second opinion to see a specialist. I have some of the symptoms you describe which could be the result of another condition. My doctor seems to think that iron tablets could make my condition of weakness better. I have weird sensations in my legs and I do need to see a Neurologist as I have a neuropathy but she is being dismissive because the GP surgery doesn’t have the funds for referrals. If we get a diagnosis we do feel better. It is the not knowing that is stressful. I research COPD so am able to find ways to live with this disease by learning on this site and changing diet and breathing techniques that are helping. Knowledge is helpful. Best wishes

floridatwigs – I’m so sorry to hear that. Muscle spasms can be linked to COPD, but it’s certainly something that you’ll want to speak to your doctor about if you haven’t already.

COPD can cause muscle dysfunction. This may include muscle weakness, loss of muscle mass and loss of endurance in the muscles. Some of this may also present as spasms.

The shakiness you descibe could be muscle related or due to something else entirely. Be sure to stay hydrated and eat to keep your blood sugar up – as both of those things can cause severe shakiness and instability.

    Warm Regards,

Hi again, floridatwigs and thanks for your post. Like Lyn, I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. As Lyn suggested, this could be related to your COPD or to something else completely. Should the symptoms you describe (muscle spasms and shakiness) persist, or worsen even, you may want to contact your physician for an evaluation. Please do check back and let us know how you’re doing, too, if you don’t mind. All the best, Leon (site moderator)
