Invasive Aspergillosis

Not a good week... I have been on oxygen 24/7 for 17 years now with both COPD and Asthma and emphysema.

I am end stage and have been for some time... I have a 16% total lung capacity. After having my bronchoscopy done a few weeks ago, they discover that my lungs are full of mold. Invasive Aspergillosis - very serious because of my emphysema. The medicine cost me well over $500 - my portion of $5400 - they don't even know if it will work. I will be tested again in 90 days to find out.

I have always been a very positive person and push myself every day to get dressed and showered and cook meals and help with the dishes instead of giving in. This has knocked me for a loop. It's getting harder and harder for me, plus my eyesight seems to be affected by the medication and I only hope and pray that it is temporary. Just a little down today... but wanted to share about this disease. I know that my faith will see me through. God Bless.

Thank you very much for sharing, Nora. I have a dear friend that was diagnosed with mold in her lungs and I had no idea such a thing was even possible before her diagnosis. So I thank you for sharing and making us aware of the condition. I think it's ok and very normal to feel down when faced with yet another diagnosis. And I think it' healthy that you are letting those feelings out here. It sounds like you have managed to maintain a great attitude and a good quality of life through the ups and downs of COPD/asthma/emphysema. And I bet you will find a way to continue your life even with this latest diagnosis. That said, you take all the time you need to rest and mentally process this new diagnosis.
