Remembering Barbara Moore

We are profoundly heartbroken to share with the community that Patient Leader Barbara Moore passed away on January 7, 2024 at the age of 68. Barbara was diagnosed with COPD in 2015 and joined the COPD.net community in 2018.

“Barbara was a force. She was fierce, courageous, kind, and, most of all, compassionate. Having worked with her for 2.5 years, there wasn’t a day that I didn’t witness the profound impact she had on our COPD.net community and on her colleagues. The impact she had on me, both personally and professionally, is something I will carry with me forever. I will truly miss our chats, the encouragement she gave to everyone she met, and the absolute inspiration that she was. We can never fill the void she has left, but I know that her words and the support and validation they bring to so many in our community will continue to live on. Thank you for everything, Barbara.”

Jackie English

"I lost a great friend and colleague this week. I met Barbara Moore when I started writing for COPD.net. I had seen her around the COPD community, but we hadn’t really talked until then. She has taught me and so many others so much. Her kindness, grace, and strength are just a few. I will miss you, Barbara! She will continue to guide us with her YouTube videos. Breathe easy, my friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."

Janet Plank

"Barbara was one of a kind. It was like she just appeared one day. She introduced herself, and we started a conversation. I couldn’t resist an opportunity to continue with her.

It was like going on an adventure with her, in some conversations. I told her that I miss going places and traveling. We sold the ‘new to us camper.’ Cigarette smoke penetrated the windows. Knowing that fire pits would prevent us from camping in a campground.

I could imagine her smiling at the words as I think I remember them. 'I’m not able to travel much either, but when I want to travel, I go to the Travel Channel. I’ve been to so many places, and it’s like I’m there in person.' She enjoyed visiting so many places. I told her that I had watched a few, but it was depressing and made me want to go more.

She told me that I needed to go there and experience it. 'Close your eyes if you need to. Smell the grass, the air, the baking bread.' I think on my next adventure, I’ll take her with me and read a couple of her stories and some of her messages as well."

Jeff Collins

"I can't remember how we ever came to know each other, but I'm sure it was from her Facebook Tea Time, like most people. Over time, we connected, and our friendship grew from supporting each other.

She was instrumental in helping me understand and start to cope as my world was crumbling around me. She was the person who urged me to get involved with COPD.net and told me that both the readers and myself would benefit from this experience. She carried the flag to education and spread awareness about COPD. Until we meet again, my friend!"
