November is COPD Awareness Month! This year, our theme is Here for Each Other: Supporting Our COPD Community, a reminder that none of us have to face this journey alone. Coping with COPD is hard, both physically and emotionally. We get it, and we are here to show you support and make those tough days a little easier by sharing tips and tricks from the community!

To share our appreciation for our community members, and to help ease some of the physical and emotional challenges of COPD, we are gifting 1 winner with a 6-month subscription to Instacart and a 3-month subscription to Headspace!

I had zyfer valves installed in my left lung and iam thrilled to only use oxygen at night.

 <inline-mention username="John Bottrell, RRT" user-id="2438001"/> I have never heard of these Zyfer valves? I will ‘google’ them, as I already spend my day, being the curious person I am, googling things.. interesting..Apparently, my COPD is not at a stage , where I need a Pulmonologist..I say this because when I FINALLY got to see one, after 6 or more months waiting for an appointment, he seemed baffled as to why he was seeing me..He said, i didn’t need a ‘follow up’ appointment! I spoke with a triage nurse, who works closely with my doctor, and said he no doubt feels my primary care doctor can manage my COPD as it currently is.. I have had two COPD EXACERBATIONS, both requiring hospitalization..After the first one, two years this coming April 31st., I stopped smoking!! I didn’t want to stop, but…sometimes, our, or, my higher power does things for me, in this case ‘the hard way’, that I can’t seem to do myself.. since then I have had other life changing diagnoses, one which inhibits me getting the exercise I NEED and WANT!! Chronic edema, caused by Chronic Kidney Disease!! Ugh!!

 <inline-mention username="CommunityMember7d93c0" user-id="9763029"/> I hear what a disappointment that appointment was for you. Have you had a chance to speak with your primary doctor since then? Maybe they can refer you to a pulmonologist who is a better fit for you. It can be really scary to hear that you are in stage 4 of COPD, but know that COPD is unpredictable. Many people are still with us, living life well, even decades after a stage 4 diagnosis.
