6 Things That We’d Like to See in the New Year

So, we are now entering the new year. Of course, we all make resolutions or ways to improve ourselves.

Beneficial things for those with COPD in 2023

This post is about ideas for the world around us to improve our lives. Here are six things those with COPD could benefit from in the new year.

Lower prices for medicine

This is a no-brainer. All of us here would benefit from lower prescription prices.

Increase in refill amounts

An allowance of 2 extra refills per year for each prescription would be nice, especially for those prone to losing inhalers. This month, for example, I lost my Symbicort two weeks into it.

Now I have to go two weeks without. If we were allowed two extra refills, then I’d be able to have a few spares for such instances.

The current limit of one refill per month is assuming we never lose things.

At least one new breakthrough medicine

Most of our newer COPD medicines are just reformulations of medicines that have been around for over 50 years, such as bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids.

In this new year, I would like to see the FDA approval of an entirely new line of COPD medicine. We can all dream of what we want this medicine to be.

Side-effect free steroids

One new line of medicine that I think we would all benefit from is a steroid that brings all the benefits of steroids without all the side effects of steroids. Not only would this benefit those of us in this community, but those in other communities as well.

I say this because most of our modern diseases are inflammatory in nature. I do know that there are several of these in the pipeline.

So, perhaps this is not too far out from reality.

A public spokesperson

We need to put a face to the term COPD. Think of it this way, when you see Flo the Insurance girl, you think of Progressive Insurance. Flo is the face of the Progressive insurance company.

We need our own Flo. We need someone like her to create a public image of COPD to help us get the word out about our disease.

Any volunteers?

Studies that lead to something great

We're often reading about how researchers are discovering something new. These studies end with something like: "We hope this will lead to some new medicine or a potential cure!"

So, it's time for one of these to lead to something. This would be a good year for this to happen.
