Reviewed by: HU Medical Review Board | Last reviewed: December 2023

Stiolto Respimat® (tiotropium bromide and olodaterol) is an inhaled medicine. It contains both a long-acting muscarinic agent (LAMA) and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA).1

Stiolto Respimat is a long-term maintenance treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It should not be used as a rescue medicine for treating sudden breathing problems.1

What are the ingredients in Stiolto Respimat?

The active ingredients in Stiolto Respimat are tiotropium bromide (a LAMA) and olodaterol (a LABA).1

How does Stiolto Respimat work?

COPD can cause symptoms such as mucus, wheezing, cough, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. The drugs in Stiolto Respimat work together to manage these symptoms. Both drugs help the muscles around the airways in the lungs stay relaxed. This helps with breathing.1,2

Tiotropium bromide is a LAMA. LAMAs work by blocking the action of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. This process relaxes muscles in the airways, which reduces the symptoms of COPD.1

Olodaterol is a LABA. LABAs work by stimulating B2 receptors. This process also relaxes muscles in the airways and reduces the symptoms of COPD.1
