What 's better Gas or liquid

I was just at my Dr.s today and had made up my mind to ask and get for liquid oxygen , as up here in New York you must have a special need to get liquid oxygen because of the extra cost I have for the last three months been investigating the rules and usage of pro's and con's of both , so far it's liquid for me I'm on a higher liter usage and I have to carry so many tanks with me it becomes a danger , I have had cervical and lower back surgery plus A fib , I just can't get out the house with them tanks so I'm hoping the insurance co doesn't give me any crap ,I sure do want to get out and ride my Harley and go fishing , I have a sidecar and that is where this will come in handy I think I will get my life back a bit and be able to go to the Dr. By my self again , so who here is on liquid anyone ,

  1. Hi Rich,

Thanks for you post! We also want you to be able to get out, ride your Harley, and go fishing! Sounds like those are important to you and would bring you a great deal enjoyment. While I feel community members may be able to give you a more personal response regarding their experiences with liquid oxygen, I thought you would find the following articles informative - https://copd.net/treatment/medication-overview/oxygen-therapy/, https://copd.net/living/101-the-who-what-when-where-why-how-of-supplemental-oxygen-therapy/. The following article is a part of a series - https://copd.net/living/on-oxygen-on-the-go-part-1-the-burden-of-portable-oxygen/. The additional articles are found towards the bottom of part 1. I think you may find them all informative. I hope you these helpful. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We love hearing from you. Wishing you all the best today.

    Warmly,

    Meaghan (COPD.net Team)

    1. Hi Rich and welcome! Meaghan has given you a good start with some suitable articles to review on the use of oxygen. You are no doubt aware that oxygen can be supplied (as you indicated) via medical gas cylinders or in liquid form. It can also be provided via oxygen concentrators which require an electrical source. Clearly, because of expense, insurance will have an influence on the decision but you can work with your physician to justify which way you'd prefer to have the oxygen supplied.
Motorcycling (especially with a sidecar) and fishing sound like the way to go!
Please check back with us and let us know how you're doing.

      1. Good Luck Rich...I also have looked into liquid 02 but it is not available to me here. I have been using a concentrator which plugs into electric at night for about 4 years. I have refused gas canisters. I am afraid to use them. I live with my daughter and she is also afraid for me to use them in the house. She has purchased a portable concentrator for me. (Medicare would not cover it since I was already using 02) I am carrying it on my walker at home to try to increase my mobility. I have lost my stamina and cannot walk from one room to another without gasping. My Pulmo wants me to use 02 when mobile or exercising. I am trying and it does help but I have difficulty switching from the continuous 02 to the pulse delivered 02. when I do not watch the lights and make sure to inhale deeply through my nose the alarm goes off. Does anyone have any tips for me to use when switching to pulse where I have to concentrate on my inhale breathing. I cannot multi task well and when I get to talking I am not breathing through my nose deeply enough...Any advice is welcome....

        1. Hi carolecole - it sounds like you're definitely on the right track for yourself! You analysis appears to be sound and since the expense is always an issue (for our insurance as well as our own pockets), your concerns are valid. Good luck with your decision and please keep us posted as to how you're doing.
          All the best,

          1. My problem is my 02 is 90 during the day time. Gee what a great problem right? lolol However, it drops to 78 during the night time. I wore a monitor to find that out. Anyway in order to get the G4 my 02 must be atleast 88 or below during the day and night time before Medicare will pay anything on it. Same for Blue Cross insurance. I checked on that. I even had the company that sells the G4 contact my dr. for a prescription for the G4 but, there was nothing she could do. Right now! I was willing to purchase it on my credit card but, she would not write the prescription for me.

I was hoping she would because, my husband has a very bad heart disease and is in and out of the hospital because, of it and when he goes to the hospital I stay with him. Sometimes he has to go to a hospital out of town. I would need a portable concentrator to use at night time till he got home. I checked on small tanks but, they only last 2 hours and that would not be long enough out of town. I just pray he does not have to be put in an out of town hospital till i can find a way to get a portable concentrator.
