Nutrition and Health...and COPD

This month, COPD.net is focusing on nutrition and health and how it impacts dealing with the condition! Discuss how food and health work together (or don't!) in managing your COPD here.

  1. When I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2013 I immediately changed my diet. I gave away all canned, boxed and processed foods and only eat organic and all natural foods. You can tell if something is really Organic by the sticker on fruit and vegetables - if the sticker is a 5 digit number make sure the first number is 9. This guarantees they are actually organic.

I also grow my own herbs and spices and dehydrate them. Much stronger and healthier than the mass produced herbs and spices purchased in little bottles.

I am also lucky enough to live in the Heartland of America so I purchase real beef, chicken, eggs from ranches as well as real vegetables from other smaller farms. If you don't live in the country take advantage of Farmers Markets. Eating real food has made me feel better

    1. Hi MSargent914 and thanks for sharing your experiences. It's good to hear you've found a suitable diet that works so well for you. We're glad to have you as part of our community.
      All the best,

      1. Thank you Leon. I forgot to mention that after totally changing my diet I got my blood sugar down to normal in three months.

        1. It's our pleasure MSargetn914. You're a good and shining example of just how effective taking control of one's diet can be for COPD. I'm sure others will read your story and be inspired to see what it can do for them. Keep up the good work! Warm regards,
          Leon (site moderator)

          1. Again, thank you Leon. I have sent your site to others in hopes they can learn from your site and join in on forums as I have. I have found your site very informative and helpful. COPD is not fun to live with and there is a lot to learn from others as doctors at the VA don't seem to really care.
