Having breathing troubles

I haven't been in here for a few weeks. I spent a week in the hospital the end of October. My problem now is that I had a molar tooth extracted a week ago which has caused my chronic sinusitis to start up and I'm having breathing problems and where the tooth was removed is very swollen. When I get up and move around I can't hardly breathe. I have been taking breathing treatments about every 4 hours. I should have had my husband take me to the ER today but I just started feeling worse tonight and he has to be at work at midnight. I just hope I can hold on until tomorrow to seek help. I guess I just wanted to vent. Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Stephk3556, and thanks for your post. It's understandable how concerned you are given the symptoms you've described, and that you're feeling worse tonight, and that your husband has to be at work at midnight. That is quite a bit of pressure to contend with, I hear you!
Hang in there and please keep us posted as to your progress!!

You are welcome to vent here anytime!!

    1. Thanks Leon. I just returned home from the ER. Husband didn't go to work he called his boss and told him about me. The ER doc said it was COPD exacerbation brought on from the tooth removal making my sinuses act up sending me in a flare up. He sent me home with a script of predinisone. This is the only thing that helps me when I have these episodes. I'm going to talk to my pulmonologist and see about getting a low maintenance dose to take. Has anyone else had to take this full time?
      Thanks again...

      1. Hi Stephk3556 - It's good to hear that you went to the ER and got help. It's not uncommon to end up on prednisone for a while after an exacerbation such as you had. I think it's a good idea to speak to your pulmonologist about a long term solution - be that a steroid or not. Have they prescribed any long-term inhalers for maintenance? If not, that may be where they decide to start you and go from there.
I hope it works for you. Please let us know what happens when you see the pulmonologist.

      2. Hi again, Steph3556, and thanks for your replies and, for keeping us apprised of your situation from yesterday. I'm glad to hear your husband was able to take care of you for this episode and make sure you were seen in the ER. Sounds like the medications you are on will help you through this particular exacerbation. Checking in with your pulmonologist is a great idea as well.
We will keep you in our thoughts!
        Warmly,
        Leon (site moderator)

    2. Hi Lyn..I am on Trelegy inhaler, Spriva pill and I have a albuterol inhaler to use as needed.

      1. Hi Stephk3556 - Well you're certainly familiar with long-term maintenance meds then. I hope they can do something that gives you relief. Keep us posted. - Lyn (site moderator)
