Bnp bloodwork

I was recently in the hospital and had a bnp reading of 240.. Normal for this test is 100 and below. I have read that any result over 100 was a sign of congestive heart failure. I was just recently diagnoised as stage 3 and am curious about the bnp test results. In the hospital they said no heart issures. Chest xray clear so why would this level be abnormal?

  1. Hi Mfavro and thanks for your post. We are unable to provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), but your concern certainly warrants a comment. For our readers who may not know, I'm guessing you're referring to the test BNP. This is the "brain natriuretic peptide" blood test, a test used to measure the levels of a protein called BPN. For the specifics related to normal levels and how it's related to your stage 3 COPD, you really need to speak with your physician(s) who are treating you and ordered the test.
Please do check back and let us know how you're doing.
    All the best,
