After effects of induced coma

I was wondering has anyone had been in and induced coma because of there respiratory failure I was wondering why I have awaken with neuropathy from the top of my thighs to my feet with some pain on and off with numbness and a burning sensation in the feet at times comes and go's all bloodwork is normal no surger I woke up after six weeks of being induced to coma with a vent and trachea but I muscle wasted quickly and couldn't do much of anything ,I went to a neurologist and he told me I had no reflexes in the knees and if he was to do the nerver test he said it would be a waste of time because if it damaged its permanent more then likely , so I didn't have it done ,I already know it's there but can't figure out how it happened ,I do know I have been working g out and it has reduced the pain and numbness but not all of it and it comes back if u miss a day ?

  1. Hi Rich and thanks so much for sharing your experience with the community. You've certainly been through a considerable ordeal with what appears to have been a critical illness. Anytime someone has had a tracheostomy and placed on mechanical ventilatory support, that is a very serious issue. Making it even more complex is the fact that you were in an induced coma for six weeks. We hear you!!
We cannot provide medical advice here (for your own safety), but it sounds like you should be following up with the various physicians who provided care for you while you were hospitalized.

    1. Hi Rich. I completely understand what your talking about as I was in ICU for 2.5 weeks and my muscles did the same. I had to do rehab and it comes back in time but each person is different. Just know many many don't make it out of ICU. I know the wondering your doing and we just might get the answers and maybe it's better that way as they had me on some potent stuff.

      1. Hi Raven and thank you as well for sharing your experience from being in an ICU for 2.5 weeks. It is certainly a challenge getting back to your life after a significant hospital stay with a critical illness. As you mentioned, bringing the muscles back from that requires a lot of hard work and support. I thought this might be a good time to post this material on pulmonary rehabilitation:https://copd.net/living-with-copd/pulmonary-rehab/

We're glad to hear that you're doing better following your hospital stay and appreciate your comment here. You are always welcome here in our online community.
        All the best,
