How to start the morning

I have lots of mucus and coughing in the morning (and, sometimes vomiting). I have found a solution that helps to get me to the point where I am comfortable. When I get up in the morning I make tea. I mix tea with honey and lemon juice (sometimes a splash of brandy). After 3 hours and 3 cups of tea mixture, I am breathing quite well. I hope this helps someone.

Great suggestion. I’ve started with just hot tea and it’s helping! Also, I read somewhere that caffeine is good for opening airways and so that may be an added benefit. Anyway, so far, so good. Thanks!

Hi (again) Caroly. In view of your concern with caffeine and COPD, I thought you might find it helpful to look over this article on that very subject: https://asthma.net/coping/caffeine/. It is from our sister site, asthma.net. The diseases are similar in that they both are classified as ‘obstructive’ disease.

    Hi Kenmort,

Thanks for sharing your story! Sounds like you’re making hot toddies (when you add the brandy). So great to hear it soothes the coughing and helps decrease the mucus. Both lemon and honey are great for that! You might find the following articles helpful and interesting – https://copd.net/treatment/natural-remedies-overview/, https://copd.net/treatment/natural-remedies-overview/supplements/. They discuss various natural remedies which help treat some symptoms of COPD. Again, thank you for sharing your story with us, along with your tip for what helps you in the morning. We appreciate it and we are so happy you are a member of our community! Hope you have a lovely day.

    Warmly,

Hi Kenmort and thanks so much for sharing what helps you get started in the morning. Others in our community have mentioned using tea to soothe many of their maladies with COPD. (Although I have not heard, until now, about 3 splashes of brandy in three hours in the morning!) If it works for you, that’s fine.

    Hi Kenmort,
I get the mucus up in the morning using the nebulizer with Albuterol and Budesonide …then one mucinex tablet.
I have been on oxygen now for years. Then the Spriva when I can afford it. This uses up a couple of hours every morning but it seems to help get that stuff up out of what is left of my lungs.
    Hope this will help you!
