Bowel movements

I am a 66-year-old male that has COPD and when I get really short of breath and stressed I lose control of my bowels. Is this a common problem with COPD?

You’re not alone. I can offer two helps: keep your oxygen on and wear adult diapers, such as Depends. the mornings were once the worst times for me so I’d keep a wash cloth by my bed. Once I started O2, my morning issues decreased and I turned up my oxygen when sleeping.

Thanks Daniel for your input and yes I knew what you were trying to say. I guess I’ll have to get some adult diapers for safety. Thanks again.

I have to make 3 decisions first thing when I get up.
Do I struggle to get to the kitchen to get myself much needed cup of coffee?
Do I hurry and get on the nebulizer and get myself some Albuterol so I can breathe?
Do I run to the bathroom before I have an accident?
Believe me at age 81 running anywhere in the morning is not easily accomplished!
BTW….getting my coffee first seems to win most mornings. LOL

Believe me you are not alone. I wont get into details but it is common especially when you are short of breath and I am just turning 59 next month. I always take extra pants and underwear with me when I go out. Always. It has only happened about three times in the last 2 years but it is in the back of my mind forever. You have to remember your body stops systems unneeded when You have a difficulty breathing and delivers oxygen to systems that keep you alive. Sad to say your bladder and bowels are not on that list. Although embarrassing as it is a lot of us go through this but won’t comment. If you need to purchase adult underwear or diapers and no one will no but you.
