What are your tips for finding a specialist?

Have you found a good pulmonologist, respiratory therapist or other specialist? Share your tips with fellow community members! If you haven’t found a good specialist, what challenges have you faced?

  1. I have one

    1. How lucky are you that the stars aligned that one time. Not everyone is that lucky, but your were. We are thrilled to hear the positivity in your comment. Perhaps at your next visit you will tell your doctor how much you appreciate him. I bet he doesn't hear it enough. Barbara Moore (Moderator)

    2. Hi Dminor, and thank you for sharing the way you view your own medical team. Your visit to the Emergency Department (ED), certainly proved to be serendipitous for you! And, based on that one 'lucky' encounter, it has set you up with a good medical team for the long term!
Something similar happened to me. quite some time ago but, that is a story for another day!!
I trust you are continuing to do well!
      Warm regards,

  2. I go to Google and put in Pulmonologist in my area then when they all come up I read every testimonial and judge from that UNLESS someone I know has absolutely raved about their wonderful doctor who has his own practice and spends time with you and explains everything. And that is possible because I had a man do just that last year. I was about to change doctors when I heard that he had closed up shop or retired. But this same man keeps me apprised of his doctors and he seems to have very good satisfactory doctors but meanwhile I keep the one I've been going to in a practice with 5 or 6 others and always busy. But I'm in a small town.

    1. I began with a new pulmonologist in January. I chose him because he was closer to where I live. Over the last eight months, I found he does not communicate with me at all. His office staff was inefficient and often rude. Fortunately, I did an internet search and found a new addition to the staff at my previous doctor’s team. I went there yesterday and she explained everything to me and answered my questions so I could understand.

      1. , it is so frustrating when our doctor doesn't listen or properly explain but I am glad to hear that you were able to find a new doctor that seems to be doing a better job! All the best, Sam S. (COPD team).

    2. My doctor is a joke all she does is give pills and inhaler
