How do you go swimming if you're on supplemental oxygen?

I was wondering how other people on supplemental oxygen are able to use a swimming pool?

  1. Hi writtenone and thank you for your question! Another community member asked a similar question here: https://copd.net/q-and-a/swimming-without-oxygen/ It looks like one of our members purchased an Oxyfloat, a device that keeps your tank afloat while you swim. I encourage you to check out that Q&A thread and view the other responses as well. Have a great day! - Alesandra (COPD.net Team)

    1. I go swimming at the YMCA daily. I also do water arobics. I set my tank near side of pool and use a 25ft tubing. When swimming laps I place tank in center area of the lap pool so it's even amount distance from tank each way I swim. I only swim the amount of tubing. I usually swim in the lap closest to side because tubing stays on side away from arms.
I do deep water arobics and shallow water arobics placing tank on side edge of pool. I keep tubing in control out of others way while doing it.
I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GO. In water your body is weightless so moving around is easier.

      1. Thanks for writing this. I belong to the Y and they have said I can continue to come with the o2. Thanks to your inspiring answer I believe today will be the day I try it, my daughter has been asking all summer.

      2. Hi again, Gee1207 - I believe your post here is related to your concern (from another of your posts), about wishing you were swimming. I hope you do get an opportunity to try swimming safely with your oxygen. Please do keep us posted as to your progress. All the best, Leon (site moderator)
