What does borderline COPD mean?

I had a chest xray and it says hyperinflated lung borderline COPD? I can't be tested yet because I've been on steroids. I have asthma and recurrent chest infections for 20 years now. I had an xray less than a year ago and nothing came up then. I'm 39 years old - should I be worried?

  1. Hi mumof639 and thanks for your post. While we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), your concerns certainly warrant a reply. In the most general of terms, 'borderline' is a term sometimes used by physicians when a patient's symptoms and clinical data, when combined with a history and physical is leaning towards a possible diagnosis of COPD.
I would suggest you may want to speak frankly about this with your diagnosing physician. What do you think? Please do check back and let us know how you're doing.

    1. Thankyou.i have asked but they said they wont know till i have the copd test which is 6weeks away!

      1. Hi mumof639 - That's rough! Especially when you're anxious for a response. As Leon already said, healthcare providers will often use those generic terms when they feel there's a possibility of something like COPD but they aren't sure yet. I'm sorry you have to wait 6 weeks. I know it's easier said than done, but in the meantime try to put it out of your mind and go about your normal life. Please let us know when you've found it.

      2. Hi again, mumof639 and thanks for checking back with us following your call to the doctor's office. I agree with my colleague, Lyn - this can be the most challenging part - the waiting! If you can keep yourself and your mind busy with your normal activities, that may help the time to go back quickly. We're all here pulling for you; should you need anything, please do let us know. You are always welcome here in our online community.
