Does anyone have chronic abdominal pain due to COPD?

I am in pain daily, hurts when I exhale. The intensity changes but the pain is always there.

  1. Hi penlor, thank you for reaching out! You are not alone experiencing abdominal pain with COPD. I thought this article might resonate with your experience:

Have you spoken with your doctor about the abdominal pain you are having? It is always important to confirm with your doctor that your symptoms are from COPD and not a different underlying cause. Please keep us posted on how you are managing. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (COPD.net team)

    1. Hi penlor - I'm sure others in the community will respond as well, but abdominal pain is something others with COPD have mentioned. At times it can be diet related, but not always. As with any kind of pain, you certainly want to mention it to your doctor so that he/she is aware of any symptoms you're experiencing.

      1. My doctor has sent me to a GI. Waiting for an appointment with a pulmonologist. I am not dealing with the pain well.

At least now I have more information to go on!

        Thanks!

        1. Hi again, penlor, and thanks for your post(s) here. I'm glad to hear you will be seeing a gastrointestinal physician. That should help differentiate the pain as being gastric related or something else - perhaps pulmonary. I see you are also waiting for an appointment with a pulmonologist.

I noticed that my colleague, Allyson, has referenced an article for you (below), on pains that may be associated with the lung.

In addition, you may find this article on COPD and bloating to be helpful. https://copd.net/living/advocate-tips-bloating/.
As well, since you did mention you're facing some challenges managing the pain, I thought you might gain some additional insight from this article on that very subject: https://copd.net/clinical/tips-managing-pain/.

I do hope our collective responses (from my colleagues Lyn and Allyson) provide you with some guidance until you do get to see both physicians.

          Wishing you well,
          Leon (site moderator COPD.net)

      2. I too have stomach pain or rear diaphragm spasms. I take a dose of omeprazole at night when I go to bed it helps keep the bloating, stomach pain down.
When I have very bad breathing issue, I start to get extremely anxious, then I need to take Xanax which works wonders on diaphragm.
Your doctor should be able to decide if you have any GI issues, etc. Good luck and hope you get better.

        1. you are kidding Drs think benzodiazspan will interfere with breathing. Everyone is different. My lack of oxygen goes where most needed. Stomach head some of us have other illnesses with . I've acid reflux, nerve damage from accident I'm in pain management for spasms Tazidine most used or a blue Dyclomine.
