She also brings the patient perspective to the Akron STEM High School as a member of their Biotechnology Advisory Board in support of the education, development, and diversification of the next generation of the allied healthcare workforce. As an entrepreneur, Melissa advocates for clean air for patients as an affiliate of WellAir Solutions, a maker of premium portable air cleaners proven by 50 studies to vastly improve indoor air quality. A user of supplemental oxygen, she designs and brings to market oxygen accessories to make living with supplemental oxygen easier. She holds three patents for a new patient safety and convenience oxygen accessory called the O2 FRESHTM Nasal Cannula Prong Cover. The O2 FRESHTM Nasal Cannula Prong Cover protects nasal cannula prongs from the floor and other high touch surfaces and enables the user to hang tubing up and out of the way, mitigating trip and fall hazard caused by oxygen tubing. In May, you can find her climbing 1,190 steps or 100 flights of stairs, in support of the American Lung Association Fight For Air Climb at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
